- Meet Ms Russo
We were please to meet with Ms Russo the Assistant Head for Pupil Wellbeing, Head of Drama and Teacher of History, French and Latin. We spoke to Ms Russo to learn more about her and her roles.
How long have you worked at the school?
23 years! Unbelievably... I don't know what has happened to the time!
What does your role involve?
I have had a few roles since I started at Belmont, but now, I am Assistant Head for Pupil Wellbeing. I am also Head of Drama Performances and I teach History, French and Latin!
What is your favourite thing at the school?
I do love the grounds and all the beautiful trees. I love The Chapel because it is the soul of the school, but I cannot deny my favourite thing is the Belmont pupils: they are full of energy, curiosity and fun. They are also great on stage!
Do you have any advice for our pupils which could help them to get the most out of their time at the school?
Try not to worry about what other people think. Just be your unique self and that is enough.
What is your favourite book and film for our pupils and why?
I absolutely love the film of the musical Hairspray. It is so uplifting, and it never fails to raise my spirits.
My favourite book ever is The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. It completely explains why we need art in our lives. When I was growing up, my favourite book was Jamaica Inn by Daphne Du Maurier. It is set on the rugged coast of Cornwall, and it was very exciting!
Could you share an inspirational quote with us? How does it inspire you?
'This above all, to thine own self be true'
Polonius says this to Laertes in Hamlet, but my mum always used to quote it to me. It means you should stay true to yourself and not pretend to be someone else. Very important!
Can you tell us something that we might not know about you?
I used to live in a van with some musicians and busk on the streets of Europe! We sold jewellery by day, and we busked in the evening. San Sebastian, Zurich, Avignon, and Florence... Very Happy Days!
