Belmont Awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award with Distinction

Belmont is proud to have been awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award with Distinction!

A huge congratulations to our amazing children for their hard work, enthusiasm and teamwork throughout the year. From pond dipping and litter picking to recycling initiatives, food waste challenges, camping adventures and championing animal rights, our pupils have shown a real commitment to caring for the environment and making a positive difference.

Here is some of their feedback:

• “Your school has made some brilliant curriculum links this year, especially through its marine learning. Pupils in the eco-club explored different sea creatures and taught the rest of the school about plastic pollution, even leading a lovely eco-week activity where Year 3 pupils turned plastic from home into colourful flowers. Their assembly helped everyone understand the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling, and it brought a real sense of shared purpose across the school.”"
• “Waste learning was just as strong. Pupils created animal homes and feeders from recycled materials and learned a huge amount from the Wastestream experts about sorting bins and what happens to rubbish. The lunchtime waste competition was a real eye-opener, helping pupils see how much food they throw away and encouraging them to only take what they would eat. Growing their own food also made a big impact, with pupils proudly eating every bite they had nurtured. Their giant fish made from bottle tops, created with the pre-prep children, was a brilliant way to celebrate recycling together.”
• “Global citizenship links added another powerful layer. Pupils took ownership of planning the fair and learned about different charities and the challenges people and animals face around the world. Outdoor learning strengthened this further, with pond dipping helping pupils explore lifecycles and biodiversity first-hand. Year 7’s Champions of the Rainforest programme was a standout success, giving pupils the chance to write to children living in remote rainforest communities and understand how they can help protect these precious habitats. All of this has brought a thoughtful, outward-looking energy to the school community.”
• “Your school has done a brilliant job involving pupils and the wider community in its eco-work this year. Pupils created eye-catching posters and displayed them around the school to share simple, practical eco advice, which really helped keep everyone aware of the changes being made. Their three assemblies were a standout success, with pupils confidently explaining the hard work they’ve been doing, how to reduce waste, and what the whole school will be doing next to stay eco-friendly. Sharing these activities on social media widened the impact even further, and meeting with the school council to discuss food waste showed great collaboration. The eco-friendly wellbeing-garden competition was a lovely touch, bringing creativity and community spirit together. All of this has helped build a positive, informed school community that feels proud of pupils’ leadership in caring for the environment.”
