Belmont Welcomes Guest Speaker from the Sun Newspaper
On Thursday, Year 5 welcomed Arthur Edwards (Royal Photographer for the Sun Newspaper), accompanied by Victoria Newton (Editor in Chief of the Sun Newspaper and Stanley's mum), to school to speak to them about his experiences of being an evacuee during WW2 and growing up in post was Britain. Currently studying the topic, 'A Child's War' in their CLP lessons, the children listened intently to Arthur's stories and recollections of being evacuated to Devon, being away from his parents and brother for 3 years, his father's visit to Devon and the toy truck he gave him and then coming back home, not recognising his mother and meeting his baby sister for the first time. Arthur recollected it being a happy time, despite the dangers and the adversity he and his family experienced. We are very grateful to Arthur for giving up his time to come and visit us and to Victoria for making it possible.
