Autumn Half Term Sporting Highlights
This term has been a fantastic celebration of sport at Belmont, with pupils showing not only skill and determination but also the values that matter most: teamwork, resilience, and respect. From thrilling football and hockey tournaments to cross-country and friendly fixtures, our pupils have embraced every challenge with energy and enthusiasm.
Highlights included impressive performances at regional competitions, exciting matches against visiting teams, and memorable moments where pupils supported one another and demonstrated true sportsmanship. It was particularly rewarding to see every Year 3 pupil take part in a school fixture, marking the start of their sporting journey.
Our Under 11 football team delivered an outstanding performance at the IAPS Regional Qualifiers hosted by Fairfield Prep School. Competing in a strong field of twelve teams split into two pools, the boys went unbeaten in their group stage — winning four matches and drawing one — without conceding a single goal. Their defensive discipline and attacking flair earned them a place in the knockout rounds, where they continued to impress. A dominant 4–0 win in the quarter-final was followed by a hard-fought 1–0 victory in the semi-final. The final proved a tense affair, finishing level before our goalkeeper produced an exceptional save in the penalty shoot-out to secure a memorable tournament win. The team’s commitment, teamwork, and composure under pressure were a credit to the school — an incredible achievement and a day to remember!

Meanwhile, the Year 6 girls secured a silver medal in the highly competitive IAPS hockey tournament at Haileybury, narrowly losing to Danes Hill in the final. The Year 7 girls triumphed at the St Edmund’s tournament, beating the so-called unbeatable Heath Mount, and there were outstanding cross-country performances in the Harrow School competition.
Our U13 Girls also took part in the ISFA Girls Cup Competition, a great day of teamwork and Belmont spirit!

Belmont’s U12s team put on a fantastic display of football against the visiting Melbourne touring side, with both teams showing great skill, determination and sportsmanship throughout. In a match full of energy, creativity, and tenacity, the parents of Belmont and Melbourne were treated to an eight-goal thriller that ended in a hard-fought 4–4 draw. This was a memorable encounter that showcased the spirit of the game and left smiles on every face.
Alongside these exceptional results, we are proud of every pupil, at every level, who have been training and representing Belmont. It was particularly heart-warming to see that all of Year 3 have played in a school fixture this half term. Whether they were most excited about the coach journey, the post-match tea, or the match itself, it was clearly a positive and memorable experience for everyone involved.
