Wastestream Services Workshop
Our Year 8 pupils recently enjoyed a visit to Wastestream Services, located close to Belmont, where learning came to life beyond the classroom. They discovered how recycling works in practice, from collection and separation to compaction, and even used machinery to compress over 100 cardboard boxes and recycle glass bottles.
The visit also offered a particularly inspiring story. Founder Pete Ancketill was struck by the constant noise of crashing bottles behind the bar. Turning irritation into innovation, he went on to develop what is now the quietest, safest and most convenient glass crusher in the world, an idea that later gained national attention on Dragons’ Den.
A wonderful opportunity for our pupils to explore sustainability, problem‑solving and the power of creative thinking.
