Y8 Iceland Trip
During Half-Term some our Year 8 pupils had an unforgettable trip to Iceland, immersing themselves in the country’s dramatic landscapes, natural wonders and culture.
The trip commenced in Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital, where students were introduced to the cultural and historical significance of the city.

A key highlight of the itinerary was a guided glacier trek across Sólheimajökull, where pupils experienced the awe-inspiring scale of the ice formation and gained insight into the impact of climate change on glacial landscapes. The trek provided the opportunity to observe glacial features up close.

The group also visited Reynisfjara, the renowned black sand beach near the village of Vík. Famous for its dramatic basalt columns and powerful Atlantic waves, as well as the Games of Thrones being filmed here.

Further excursions included visits to two of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls: Gullfoss, known as the “Golden Falls,” and Seljalandsfoss, which the students were able to walk behind.

In addition to exploring Iceland’s natural beauty, pupils visited the Hellisheiði Geothermal Power Plant, where they learned about the country’s innovative use of geothermal energy. The visit provided valuable insight into Iceland’s commitment to renewable energy and environmental sustainability.

The trip concluded with a visit to the Strokkur geyser, one of Iceland’s most active geothermal features, which erupts at regular intervals, sending jets of hot water high into the air.
Pupils were also lucky enough to see the Northern lights !

A huge thank you to the staff who organised and led the trip, making it a memorable experience for all!
